The Spongmonkeys are surreal, bug-eyed creatures created by British animator Joel Veitch for his website Rathergood in 2003. Originally featured in the 'We Like the Moon' flash animation, they skyrocketed to mainstream infamy in 2004 when Quiznos adopted them for a series of bizarre television commercials promoting toasted subs and their 'pepper bar.' Known for their high-pitched, off-key singing and jittery animation style, the Spongmonkeys represent one of the earliest examples of internet weirdness crossing over into corporate advertising.
